Sarah Lord Ferguson

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Sarah uses a comprehensive approach to physiotherapy treatment, including manual therapy techniques, postural re-training, and exercise prescription. She embodies a functional approach to rehabilitation and strives to help every client achieve an active and pain-free lifestyle.

Sarah completed her Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University and then graduated with her Master’s of Physical Therapy from the University of British Columbia. While studying at SFU, Sarah worked as a Lifeguard and a Personal Trainer, where she helped community members achieve their health and fitness goals. Sarah also completed the 12-month Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) at an occupational rehabilitation centre and conducted 8-months of research for her Honours Thesis in obesity.

Sarah completed her physiotherapy clinical placements in chronic pain at St. Paul’s Hospital, general surgery at Kelowna General Hospital and orthopaedic rehabilitation at Lifemark and CBI clinics. Sarah has also been involved with community projects, including the Health Mentors Program at UBC, which increases awareness about chronic diseases.

Since graduating in 2015, Sarah has worked at North Shore Sports Medicine and is an active member of both the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia (PABC). She has served on PABC’s Business Affairs Committee for 3 years and in 2019, she was appointed Chair of the committee. Sarah has also been featured on live TV and has done a series of interviews on Global. The segments have been on a variety of topics including standing at worksit-to-stand desks, and posture.

Sarah continues to have a passion for learning and higher education. After completing her physiotherapy training, Sarah decided to take courses in business. In 2018, Sarah completed her Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) and is now working towards her PhD specializing in health care marketing. She has won a number of awards for her research and academic pursuits, including the Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Fellowship offered to the top students in Canada by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

When she isn’t in the clinic or conducting research, Sarah stays active by hiking, skiing and training for marathons. Sarah’s treatment philosophy emerges from the importance of functionality in everyday life. She is a strong advocate for prehabilitation (‘prehab’) and encourages everyone to seek out a local physiotherapist in order to prevent injuries before they happen.
