Telehealth and In-home Physiotherapy

Telehealth

We are pleased to be open for Telehealth video call appointments for physiotherapy and kinesiology/active rehab directly through our scheduling system, Jane! If you have ever booked online with us at either location, you already have a Jane account and are just one step away from a video call with your therapist.

Please visit our Telehealth page for more information and visit our Online Booking Site to make an appointment!

How Jane Video Calling Works

We will schedule an appointment for you as normal. Your practitioner will be able to assess, diagnose, and make a treatment plan for you over the secure and authenticated video platform. We recommend that you use the latest versions of Chrome or Firefox and a quality webcam. A step-by-step guide on how to set up a Jane video call can be found here, as well as information on how to sign up for Jane if you have not yet done so: https://jane.app/guide/how-to-join-your-online-appointment-for-patients. We are very excited to launch this and are continuously trying to make things as easy as we can for our patients to access the best care from NSSM while we practice social distancing.

Most extended health providers are offering coverage for remote treatments (depending on your plan rules) and WSBC and ICBC will cover the cost of the appointments with a valid and active claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth or virtual health appointments are health care appointments conducted over a video conference or telephone. You get the components of an in-person visit from the comfort of your own home! You can see and interact with your healthcare provider over video. This allows you to be assessed, diagnosed, and treated and you can ask any questions you might have about your injury and your care.

What services are offered by Telehealth?

Currently we are offering Initial Physiotherapy Assessments, Follow-Up Physiotherapy appointments, and Kinesiology or Active Rehab sessions via telehealth.

How can Telehealth help?

Telehealth appointments are currently the best and safest way to continue your treatment. With our telehealth services, you are able to meet face-to-face with a Physiotherapist or Kinesiologist and receive valuable treatment from qualified professionals! The appointment lengths are the same as our in-clinic appointments (60 minute assessments, 30 minute follow-ups) and you can receive most of the same components as in person visits. Your therapist can assess an injury, diagnose, treat, educate,  prescribe exercises, and track your progress just as they would in the clinic!

Can Telehealth be covered by insurance?

While it is always recommended to contact your insurance provider, a number of insurance companies have stepped up to provide coverage for virtual appointments during this unprecedented time. ICBC, WSBC, Sunlife, Greenshield Canada, Pacific Blue Cross, and many other companies have announced they will accept telehealth or other virtual care claims just as they would for an in-person visit!

How do I set up a Telehealth appointment?

It’s easy! Book online through www.nssm.ca or better yet, give us a call at (604) 973-0242 or email us at brooksbank@nssm.ca to set up an appointment. Our appointments are structured just like in-person visits but you can attend from the comfort of your own home. Once you book your appointment, you will receive an email with details on how to access your appointment. Our healthcare coordinators will be happy to help get you set up!

Do I need anything for my Telehealth appointment?

Your telehealth appointment will be conducted at home with minimal equipment! You will definitely need a laptop or phone with working video, audio, and speaker functions. Your Physiotherapist or Kinesiologist may ask you to find some additional equipment during your appointment and we recognize that our patients may not have gym equipment at home so be prepared to get creative. Think soups cans as weights and kitchen chairs for balance!

In-home Physiotherapy

If you have difficulties leaving the house, lack access to reliable transportation, or have a busy schedule, in home physiotherapy may be a good option for you!

Our registered physiotherapists are able to bring their practice to you so that you can receive the benefits of physiotherapy where it is convenient for you. We are proud to offer in-home physiotherapy in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Surrey, and North Burnaby.

Give us a call at (604) 973-0242 for more information!
