North Shore Concussion Care is now part of NSSM! We are a proud clinic of the Complete Concussion Management Inc. (CCMI) Partnership Program – a network of clinics around the world offering evidence-based concussion care.

Manna Sandhu has a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of British Columbia. He has completed certification with Complete Concussion Management Incorporated and treats concussions .

Manna has a special interest in sports injury and concussion. Growing up, he played AAA basketball, competitive hockey, and football. Through his experiences dealing with his own injuries he knows that with proper management and care the vast majority of injuries do get better. He believes that concussions are often mismanaged and proper early intervention is critical. By keeping up with the most current research available he plans and guides his client’s recovery with the goal of ensuring a safe return to work or play.

He is an active volunteer in his community working with various high school football and rugby programs as well as lacrosse teams and BC Sledge Hockey. When his busy schedule allows the time, he can be found playing basketball, football, hockey, golf or hiking around the North Shore mountains.

Initial Concussion Assessment (60 min): This option is for patients who have a concussion and have not yet been assessed by Manna. With this treatment option, Manna will be able to assess, diagnose, and make a treatment plan for you.

Concussion Care Follow-up (60 min): This option is for patients who have had an appointment with Manna for Concussion Care in the last 3 months. Appointment will include treatment such as vestibular, oculomotor, and cervical spine rehabilitation or exertional testing for return-to-sport/work readiness

Baseline (45 min): Baseline testing is a series of physical and cognitive tests that provides a pre-injury overview of healthy brain function. These tests can offer healthcare practitioners with an objective benchmark on which for compare should a patient sustain a concussion.

Following a motor vehicle accident, patients with a valid ICBC claim number will have access to a set number of pre-authorized treatments within the first 12 weeks of their accident.

Physiotherapy – 25 sessions
Massage – 12 sessions

If you sustained a concussion during your accident you may wish to see Manna, who is trained to treat concussions, for your ICBC physiotherapy treatment.

Please see our Prices page for more information about our ICBC fee structure.

Workers who work in dangerous environments including those at risk of falling, as well as people involved in motor vehicle accidents can present with symptoms of acute concussion or post concussion syndrome. Patients with a valid WSBC claim number are able to access physiotherapy treatment at our clinic free of charge as approved by a WSBC case manager. What is a Concussion?

A concussion is a brain injury caused by acceleration or deceleration of the brain within the skull following a significant impact to the head or elsewhere on the body. The impact causes a biochemical imbalance within the brain cells, resulting in decreased blood flow and temporary energy deficits within the brain. Symptoms may include loss of consciousness, headache, pressure in the head, neck pain, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, or balance problems, among others.

Concussion Treatment

In conjunction with CCMI, we offer concussion treatment services & strategies including:

• Exertional testing for return-to-sport readiness and sub-symptom threshold exercise programs for persistent symptoms
• vestibular, oculomotor, and cervical spine rehabilitation
• balance, reaction time, visual processing, and neurocognitive testing (pre-season baseline and/or post-injury/return to sport testing)
• Educational resources

During the early stage following injury, a period of relative symptom limited physical and cognitive rest is recommended. Research suggests 24 to 48 hours, however, these decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

Following a short period of rest, the International Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport (2016) recommends a gradual increase in mental and physical activity by a licensed healthcare practitioner trained in concussion management.
